How bad is the drive from Albuquerque to Durango, Colorado?

I want to know how moutainous the roads are driving between Albuquerque and Durango. We are planning this drive as part of an upcoming trip and want to make sure our vehicles can handle the elevation and mountain roads. THanks!

1. Unless you are wanting to drive on the backroads or in the dead of winter, you can drive along US 550/NM44 which any car can handle. Just check if there's snow predicted before you go otherwise, no problem with the altitude.
