  1. Ok for a large city. Crowded, lots of traffic too. There are bad areas of town. Nice people but hard to get to know. Weather is great. The main thing you have to watch out for is traffic accidents. There are lots of them and mostly due to alcohol, driving while sleepy, and inattentiveness. The local Native Americans drive while tired all the time, on the wrong side of the road.
  2. Albuquerque is an interesting place (I grew up in the suburb of Abq). It has a lot going for it--nestled against the Sandia mountains, tons of culture and diversity. It's a bit junky, definitely not the nicest city, but not b/c it's dirty--more because it's old and not as well-kept as it could be. It's experiencing a lot of growth now, which is cool. The people in Burque (boor-keh, roll the 'r' :) are really laid back, relaxed, kind of a slow, easy lifestyle. Humble--you won't find as many know-it-alls as you find in some other parts of the country. There are definitely some ghetto areas, but every city has them! There are some fun bars downtown, and some amazing restaurants throughout the city. Depending on where you're from, Abq could be a pretty big culture shock, but it's a fun place to spend some time if you're looking for something unique. And I have to comment on the other answer--true, NM is often ranked as highest in drunk driving accidents, but it's not something you're going to see everyday while driving around. And to say that a certain population is to blame is irresponsible--it's an issue that the entire state could work to improve.
