How do you feel about discussing politics to an unregistered voter? During a discussion about the recent debates with an acquaintance, I learned that she was not a registered voter. This is someone in her mid 30's and also did a few years in the military. I was a bit turned off with continuing the conversation. Do you think a person who is unregistered to vote has a valid opinion and a right to discuss politics? Her excuse for not registering is that she's just not into politics. Valid or invalid excuse?
How do I stop thinking about politics and philosophy? I hate politics and philosophy and I have absolutely no desire to think about these things. Is politics a pure waste of time to follow? I have not seen much come out of any political candidate. You can vote for your favorite candidate, but your life probably still remains same or worsens. I have no political experience, and am not really qualified to run for any office. I do want to make a difference and have my voice heard.
What are some conversation topics besides weather and politics? Weather is a stupid topic that doesn't go anywhere. I don't follow sports and think they are stupid. Politics is too argumentative and polarized to talk to people about. I will just make enemies of everyone. I don't watch TV and am not familiar with current celebrity events or whatever BS. How else do you start and maintain a conversation?
How much of your work day is taken up by office politics? Just making up a small informal poll here.I would like a quantatative estimate (% of time) is taken up by office politics and power struggles, including work that exists solely because of such politics. 1) Where are you located, geographically? 2) Do you work for the public or private sector?
Why is US politics and commentary so concerned with political partisanship? Decreasing partisan politics has been a major theme in Presidential US politics for a while now and I cannot see why so much hot air is wasted on the issue. Will any good come out of this debate? What's the root cause of it? Does anyone, even in politics, think that they will magically change their ways?
Why do users in the politics section use spin when answering questions? I know the media is full of spin and crap that favors one side or the other. But when I ask for a logical answer in the politics section I get alot of users who just use spin and crap in formulating an answer. I like to get answers with minimal bias but it appears many people just can't provide a logical, down to earth, without spin type of answer. WHY???!! Why can individuals think independently with logic without resorting to spin in the politics section? Please provide your insight to this. Thank you for your time and answers.
What impact has our gigantic information network had on politics? We now have C-SPAN, 24 hours news feeds on TV, websites for every politician and or government entity. Politicians use twitter and face book to let people know their every move. Is all of this information doing us any good, or are we receiving too much information? Are we we becoming desensitized? Are we being overloaded and focusing too much on politics? I was looking for an objective answer to my question, not a politically biased view on whether or not one station or another is broadcasting the truth. Please stick to the question.
How important are politics in other countries? I mean it something people talk about with all their friends. Millions of dollars are spent on advertisements. And we have (atleast) five stations that I can think off hand that are dedicated to it. So how many counties outside of the U.S. really have politics play such an important role in their culture.
How did Canada's economy drive politics in the 1920s and 30s? I know that in the 1920s Canada was booming, and in hte 1930s Canada was in the Depression. However, I'm' wondering how it all tied in with the politics at the time, and how the economic conditions "drove" politics. PS. How do you feel about the increasing involvement of politics in world cricket? First there's the IPL snub of the Pakistani players, then Shiv Sena threatening to bar Aussie players from playing on indian soil. Does Yahoo Answers Politics have an agreement with Fox News to perform its moderation? There seems to be a striking resemblance between how Yahoo Answers politics sections performs their moderation and how Fox News performs its moderation on its website. That is, right-wingers can post the most extreme libellous statements they want and they will remain, yet anything opposing the right-wing is strictly moderated and censored if it is too factual. Appealing the decisions is pointless: you will get a form email saying "On review of your case we have decided not to reinstate your content" with no adequate explanation. Is anybody here aware of such an agreement between the two media giants? Please reply quickly, before they delete my question. Thanks.
Where can I find good information about early United States politics? I am getting fascinated on the early politics in the United States (roughly from independence to 1820 or so), where there seemed to be deep disagreement among different factions (say, Hamilton vs Jefferson) along with the difference between different colonies and the influence / fights with France and Britain. What are some good sources (books, online, etc.) to learn more about that part of the history?
What is the best book on Illinois politics? I want the best book on the history of Illinois politics, as I may be employed there in a capacity that deals with the state government often. This can include a book that combines state and Chicago politics into one, as that's where I'd be located.
How much time throughout your day does politics eat up your brain? I've pretty much given up on it. Neither side really cares to listen and understand each other. Liberals are from Mars, Conservatives are from Venus. I have a few close friends (although about to be demoted to aquaintances) who call me just to b*tch about Obama and other politics. I'm so sick and tired of it. Do you people let politics control your personal lives or do you actually care to feed the fish every once in awhile?
How long in politics before becoming President? I am still undecided on who I want to vote for. I think both candidates have good and bad points. Does the hypocrisy of hit and run politics hurt the political process of the USA? Politics today seems to consist of three steps. 1. attack 2. retreat 3. cry foul and act like an innocent victim when the retaliation happens. Is this the same tactic used by terrorists around the world, (to destroy someone to cause intimidation of another), and if so does this type of politics hurt our ability to remain the leader of the free world?
What happened to asking real an not opinionated questions on YA politics? Nobody on here asks an actual, thoughtful, question about politics anymore. One that involves answerers to use their intellectual perspectives and evaluate an outcome and critically analyze the question's context. You're right, this isn't one of those questions, but perhaps this will inspire us to political scientists on here and not opinionated pundits who are loaded with biases and fallacies but lack logic, reason, and evidence.
What do you usually do if someone brings up religion or politics? Say you're talking with a friend who has different beliefs than you, and somehow religion or politics comes into the conversation. You don't want to argue with them because they're your friend, but you don't want to be wrong. What do you usually do? What percentage of questions in the politics and goverment section abide by the YA guidelines? How many are legitimate sincere people looking for an answer, as opposed to oafs masking political statements in the form of a question like: "Why are liberals lazy?" "Do Republicans know how evil they are?" "Why is Obama ashamed of being a racist Muslim?" or "Who's a better liar; Bill or Hillary?" I do it all the time and it's fun, but just wondering what the percentage of questions on YA Politics and Goverment that abide by community guidelines would be. I'll say 5%.
Why do Office Politics have to get in the way of your advancement? Today, Office Politics are in every line of work, no matter if it's white collar or blue collar. Anyway, why is it that Office Politics have to be a factor in promotions these days, rather than a persons performance and education? ANd if that's not bad enough, if you confront them, they'll lie and say it is your performance, when you no it isn't. How do you know? Because you just saw a person with worse performance and/or education get the promotion. Why is this?
How much does the Council on Foreign Relations really influence policy or politics? Many cry the Council on Foreign Relations is somehow related to conspiracy, but how much does it really and openly influence policy or politics? It seems more like a social club or elite organization to me. I mean I don't see them all agreeing, the Director of the ACLU is in the CFR after all. It would be the perfect mechanism to control the nation as it even has the Pres/Director of the ACLU in it and heads of non-profits, media, academic, etc. However, not all of these people agree at all. So what does it really do?

What do you think about a psychiatrist entering politics? Do you think they will be perceived negatively because people dislike psychiatrists? Do you think they will be good at politics because they are trained to get inside your mind? Do you think that the other politicians will have a field day with it and try to use it to attack them? What is your overall opinion of it?
Why does politics make so many incapable of critical thought? Why do so many people allow themselves to be completely blinded by partisan politics? It seems as if many people lose their ability to use any critical thinking whatsoever during times of elections, and they allow themselves to be dragged along by politicians' false words. So many people buy into idiotic attack ads from their favored candidate, and it puzzles me how people can buy into such nonsense without doing some fact checking. Is the root problem of Americans not being able to use critical thinking a problem with the education system, such as relying on rote learning, or are humans just naturally biased?
Is the Politics section the place where the political minority comes to complain? I browsed through some questions from a few years ago when Bush and republicans were still in power and noticed a lot more liberal attacks on conservatives, republicans, and Bush. But the recent questions in the past several months have indicated that now it's more conservatives who are attacking liberals. So is the Politics section where the political minority comes to b*tch?
Why is the Politics Section not about Politics but about laughs? Has anyone noticed that the politics section of Yahoo Answers is full of the funniest, most randomly repeated questions ever. Every one in the section is completely biased and most questions sound like there written by a 5 year old. You know how many times I have read questions like "Why does the [Party Name] not know anything about [subject]?" About 60% of the questions are like this.
